Skandia Cowes Week 2008

2nd - 9th August

One of the most popular events of the year in the south has to be Skandia Cowes Week.

Held in early August since 1826 it is one of the longest running events of the British sporting calendar, only interrupted by the two world wars.

Attracting hundreds of people from royalty to the rich and famous, and with over 1000 boats in a multitude of classes and handicaps it has evolved over the years from the very first race held for just seven yachts!

The water is filled with an exciting mix of people from spectators, to Olympic and world class professionals. And, of course the land hosts a unique experience with live entertainment, parties and the memorable Friday night fireworks.

This year marks the end of the Skandia sponsorship and the breaking of a new dawn for Cowes. New for 2008 organisers have decided to introduce racing for four new classes, J80s, Beneteau 40.7s, ΒΌ tonners and the combined "on Deck" fleet of Farr 65s and Clipper 68s.

Also this year on Tuesday 5th August the Artemis Challenge will take place, a 50 mile sprint around the Isle of Wight entered by Open 60s, won last year by Estrella Damm helmed by Guillermo Altadil.

We look forward to seeing you there
